We’re thankful for the North Bienville Fire District. Fire Chief Antoine Hampton is making rounds to install the free smoke detectors that were requested during our “Keeping Seniors Safe at Home” workshop. The workshop was sponsored by the Community Enrichment Group, Community Coordinating Council, and the Arcadia Bienville NAACP Branch 61AD Branch 61AD-B, Legal Redress Committee, Sheryl Townsend Chairperson.

The Community Coordinating Council and Community Enrichment Group, in collaboration with the NAACP 61AD-B Health and Legal Redress Committee, were honored to host Ms. Sheryl Townsend, Author and Retired PTA, Legal Redress Committee Chair, for an informative presentation on “Accessing Public and Regulated Resources: Keeping Seniors Safe at Home.”

The North Bienville Fire Department extends its gratitude to Sheryl Townsend speaker and NAACP Arcadia-Bienville Legal Redress Chairperson for inviting Fire Chief Hampton to educate parish seniors on the significance of utilizing fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in their residences. We appreciate the opportunity to have been included.

A workshop focused on helping seniors to better navigate public and regulated resources will be held on March 12, 2026. The session is designed to provide practical information for seniors, that supports safety, independence, and informed choices. The goal is to help attendees recognize and access available resources.
The presentation will address real-life situations seniors often encounter when accessing essential services such as utilities, public agencies, consumer protections, and other regulated systems that affect daily living. Safety-focused materials will be distributed during the event, reinforcing an emphasis on awareness, access and preparedness.
The workshop reflects an ongoing commitment and goal of the Legal Redress Committee to advocate for and ensure information about public and regulated resources are available, accessible and usable.
